U.S. Navy’s Hugely Versatile SM-6 Missile Keeps Scoring Hits (By The Drive)

1. As part of the continued development of the complete Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system, U. S. military personnel launched the mock MRBM from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii early on Aug. 30, 2017.

2. “We are working closely with the fleet to develop this important new capability, and this was a key milestone in giving our Aegis BMD ships an enhanced capability to defeat ballistic missiles in their terminal phase,” MDA Director U. S. Air Force Lieutenant General Sam Greaves said in a statement .

3. With SM-3s and SM-6s, the ships could also stand watch against threats inbound to other strategic American facilities throughout the Pacific, including Guam.
