Catholic and independent schools reignite feud over Government funding

1. “There are countless examples of independent schools that have the same SES as Catholic schools where Healthcare Card, levels of educational disadvantage, school fees and other data demonstrates that these ‘like’ schools are in fact serving demographically very different groups of families.

2. According to ISCA’s census data, 56 per cent of students who attend Catholic schools hail from middle-income families earning between $52,000 and $156,000, compared with 45 per cent for the independent sector.

3. The funding feud between Catholic and independent schools has been reignited today with the first meeting of a board reviewing how the Commonwealth resources schools.
