1. (Reuters) – U. S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, charged with desertion and endangerment of U. S. troops for leaving his combat post in Afghanistan in 2009, has chosen to have a judge hear the case instead of a military jury, according to a court filing.

United States Air Force Starts Artificial Intelligence Project To Analyze Flow Of Information (By Forbes)

1. The project, called Project Quantum, is intended to leverage machine learning to analyze the flow of information across the USAF and then apply the knowledge to its Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process.

2. SparkCognition’s AI software is used to make sense of all the real-time sensor data from machines that flow across the enterprise and assess problems before they happen.

1. ON BOARD A U. S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT (Reuters) – The U. S. Air Force may intensify its strikes in Afghanistan and expand training of the Afghan air force following President Donald Trump’s decision to forge ahead with the 16-year-old war, its top general told Reuters on Tuesday.

2. Still, he acknowledged that the Air Force was “absolutely” examining the possibility of increasing air power, including to support U. S. ground forces, following Trump’s promise of a stepped-up campaign against Taliban insurgents, who have gained ground against U. S. -backed Afghan government forces.

3. During the administration of Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, U. S. military officials privately expressed frustration about their inability to strike at many Taliban targets – including training camps – unless they could show a direct threat to U. S. forces or major impact on the Afghan state.

2. Under the strategic partnership model of the Defence Procurement Procedure, 2016, the two types of helicopters will be manufactured by an Indian private entity that will tie up with a foreign original equipment manufacturer.

3. The Navy’s fresh start to develop and manufacture helicopters for anti-submarine warfare and other primary operations, under the Make in India initiative, comes at a time when it faces a depleting fleet of choppers.

1. “The sentence for killing a cow is five, seven or 14 years in different states; but the sentence for causing the death of a human being through rash or negligent driving [under the law] is only two years,” said additional sessions judge Sanjeev Kumar.

2. The country’s ministry of defence and army headquarters in New Delhi are in advanced discussions with the federal agricultural ministry and the animal husbandry department to determine the future of the military cows, but they have found no solution so far.

3. The Indian army faces the difficult proposition of disposing of about 25,000 of its cows and bulls following the imminent closure of all 39 of its military farms across the country, farms that were founded 130 years ago by the colonial administration.

Korean mishap raises doubts over reliability of Indian Army’s future artillery gun (By Hindustan Times)

1. The death of two South Korean soldiers in a K-9 howitzer explosion three days ago has raised doubts about the performance of a Korea-origin artillery gun set to be built in India on the same platform.

2. The Korean media questioned the reliability of the self-propelled howitzer, a gun meant for firing shells on high trajectories, after the incident occurred during an artillery training session in Gangwon province on Friday.

3. The Korea Herald reported on Monday that the Army has decided to halt training sessions with K-9 artillery until the exact cause of the explosion is identified.
